The Ikoma project, ongoing in Japan since July 2021, has been handed over to client BPSI Ikoma in the beginning of October 2024. SFW’s role in the project was to deliver a 32,2 MWth Bubbling Fluidized Bed boiler (BFB) to our owner, Sumitomo Heavy Industries (SHI), the main contractor of the project. Please read on to discover how the project went.

The performance tests of the plant were performed successfully in October 2024, and the project was handed over to the client BPSI Ikoma, who confirmed their Take Over approval.  As a result, the project moved on to a 12-month mechanical warranty period, during which it is ensured that everything in the plant works as it should.

The Ikoma project has been a significant step forward for both SHI and SFW, and it is an important road maker for entering the Japanese market. SFW’s role in the project included giving short-term advisory support to SHI, whereas the construction phase of the project was handled by SHI.

As the manufacturer of all pressure parts for this project, the supply scope of our company SFWPML includes: Furnace, Economizer, Superheater, Drum, Spray desuperheater, etc. The production started in December 2022 and ended in September 2023, and the product shipment was successfully completed in October 2023.

The plant has been in constant operation since October 2024, without any warranty claims. The nearest planned outage is scheduled for April 2025. The warranty period ends in October 2025.
